Personal life
Abraham Lincoln was born February 12, 1809 in a small log cabin in Hodgenville, Kentucky. Abraham only had about one year of schooling, total. So, he educated himself by reading books. Abe's mother died when he was nine of tremetol (milk sickness) and this event was very grieving for him considering his young age. After his mother's death, he became even more alienated and abused by his father. Abe's childhood started to lighten up after his father married a strong, affectionate woman who Abraham quickly bonded with.
In March 1830, Abe's family moved to Macon County, Illinois. When they moved again to Coles County, 22-year-old Abraham Lincoln struck off on his own, where he studied law and ran for Illinois state senator in 1834. Unfortunately, he lost the election.
